3 Tips to finding the perfect location to buy a home
A big mistake that many first-time home owners make, is to purchase a property that's so far off the beaten path that you have to really plan when you'll be going out for even a quick errand.
That quick Home Depot run will take you an hour instead of the 15 minutes you thought it would. Dropping your child off at school will require you to wake up at all kinds of uncharitable hours in the morning, and don't let me start about the commute could take you an hour or more to get to work.
So you're in the car with the Real Estate agent and you're so eager to see the property that you're not thinking distance at all. Here are 3 tips that can help put you the right distance close to everything.
Know the Neighborhoods
If you're moving into Palm Beach, you need to know that its a pretty spread out county. But each neighborhood is pretty well set up with shopping and things to do close by. Some of the great places to buy a home are Boynton Beach, Jupiter and West Palm Beach. Yahoo Local is generally a great place to start your search for whats nearby. Pick a home you like, plug in the address, then type for example, "Supermarkets" to find nearby supermarkets. This can be done for any service. Researching your list of potential Neighborhoods provides you with valuable information when choosing a Realtor and locations to visit.
A good way to tell if you're living in a pretty good neighborhood is what kinds of supermarkets are available there. Here in Florida and in West Palm Beach, you have two big indicators: Publix Supermarkets and Whole Foods Market. Do a search to see how far those are away from the home you're considering. There may be lots of other stores around those two places, so it can save you a lot of driving when running errands.
Use this 7 Point Checklist
* Your new property should be no more than 10 minutes away from a highway
* 5 minutes away from a supermarket or some other food shore
* 10 minutes away from a park
* 15 minutes away from a school
* 30 Minutes away from the beach (in Palm Beach, you're always 30 minutes away from the beach!)
* 40 Minutes from the Airport
* 60 Minutes from work
Of course, distance is just one of the things that we keep in mind here at Scuttina Real Estate Group, so let us know when you're ready to do your next property search.
